The Rivers State Government has appealed to the Federal Government to consider the reimbursement of its N45 billion already spent in rehabilitating federal roads in the state, just as President Goodluck Jonathan says Governor Rotimi Amaechiā€™s vision for Rivers State excites him.

Giving a breakdown of the money, he said the state government expended N21 billion on PH-Owerri Road, Rumuokrushi/Eleme flyover N7 billion, and the Ada George/East West Road N17.5 billion, noting that granting the request of the state would enhance utilization of such funds to other areas of need for the people .

He urged the federal government to pursue the post-amnesty programme with great vigour, emphasizing that Mr President had an insider perception of the need to actively and honestly engage the rehabilitation of the population that had taken part in the past regime of violent militancy in the Niger Delta region.

Amaechi highlighted some of the people-oriented projects executed by his administration and assured the president of the readiness of the people of Rivers State to support his vision to create meaningful impact in the polity, which is a legitimate aspiration of the people. In his remark, President Goodluck Jonathan assured the state government that the federal authorities would consider the refund of money spent by the Rivers State Government in rehabilitating some federal roads in the area.
