Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, yesterday said the Federal Government would award a contract of N1trillion for the execution of a coastal road project in the Niger Delta.
NAN reports that the minister said this in Abuja during a courtesy visit on him by the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Abuja chapter, led by Dr. Atuboyedia Obianime, the President of the association.
He said that the project would be a 10-lane road running through Bayelsa to Ondo State and connecting oil producing communities.
“The coastal road project will be awarded in the next one month and it will cost about N1trillion.
“The Niger Delta is much more than oil and gas; by the time the project is completed, it will make the region a tourist attraction and it will boost the aesthetics and secure the future of the region.
“We are determined to see that the project commenced. If we support it with tourist activities, like marine activities, Nigeria will become one of the best countries in the world and we will have peace,’’ Orubebe said.
He said that the Ministry had mega projects in to develop the region and it was making contact with foreign companies to attract investments in the region.
